Wallpaper Installation in Dubai: Types, Wall Preparation, How It Is Fitted and What to Ask
Wallpaper installation in Dubai looks simple until the first seam lifts. A roll that cost a few hundred dirhams can be ruined by a wall that was not primed, a pattern that was not matched or a room that was too humid, and then the cost is the roll, the labour and the redo. Most failures are decided before the first drop of paste goes on the wall.

Dubai Repair Pro is a Dubai LLC with its own employed team. We do not subcontract wallpaper work. Our wallpaper fixing team, covering wall paper fixing in Dubai from a single feature wall to a whole apartment, measures, prepares the wall, hangs the paper, trims it and hands over a clean room, and the same company paints, tiles and repairs the surfaces around it. We fit the wallpaper you have chosen, or we advise on the choice and supply it. Our wallpaper services in Dubai cover homes, offices and shops.
This page explains the types of wallpaper and which suit Dubai, which rooms suit wallpaper and which do not, how to measure and order, how a wall must be prepared, how the job is fitted step by step, how peel-and-stick compares with paste-the-wall, what a wallpaper quote should show, and how to choose a wallpaper installation company in Dubai.
Wallpaper installation Dubai-wide and wallpaper fixing Dubai-wide are one service whatever you call it: we measure, prepare the wall and fit the paper. A good fitter prepares the wall as carefully as they hang the paper.
To start, send photos of the wall and the wallpaper (or a photo of the sample) on WhatsApp at +971 55 209 9785. A site inspection costs AED 100, and you get a written quote after it.
Wallpaper types and which suit Dubai
Wall paper in Dubai comes in several constructions, and the wallpaper UAE shops and importers sell falls into the same groups, and the construction matters more than the pattern. It decides how the paper takes paste, how it handles humidity and how forgiving it is on a wall that is not perfect.
| Type | What it is | Suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vinyl-coated | Paper or fabric backing with a vinyl top layer | Kitchens, hallways, busy rooms, rooms with moisture | Needs the right adhesive; the vinyl surface can show seams if poorly matched |
| Non-woven | Blend of fibres, strong and breathable | Living rooms, bedrooms, most walls | Often hung by pasting the wall, not the paper |
| Paper | Printed paper, no coating | Dry bedrooms and low-traffic rooms | Marks easily, tears when wet, not for humid rooms |
| Fabric-touch and textured | Woven, linen or grass-cloth looks | Feature walls, living and dining rooms | Seams and shading differences show; handle with care |
| 3D and relief | Raised, embossed or sculpted surface | Feature walls and accent walls | Needs precise seam work; the raised surface can lift at edges |
| Murals and panels | Large printed images, in panels or sheets | Feature walls, offices, reception areas | Panel order and alignment must be exact |
| Self-adhesive (peel-and-stick) | Backed with adhesive | Short-term walls, small areas, rentals | Needs a smooth, clean, sealed wall; weaker long-term grip |
Humidity and AC. Dubai homes swing between hot, humid air outside and cold, dry air from the AC inside. External walls and walls behind furniture can be cooler than the room, and moisture can collect there. Vinyl-coated and non-woven wallpapers tolerate this better than plain paper. If the wall has ever shown damp, fix the damp first (see waterproofing in Dubai) before any paper goes on.
Kids' rooms. Kids wallpaper installation in Dubai usually means characters, animals and bright patterns on vinyl or non-woven paper, which wipe clean. We recommend a washable surface and a pattern the child will not outgrow in a year. Mural-style kids wallpaper needs panels hung in the correct order and aligned at the horizon line.
3D wallpaper. 3D wallpaper installation services in Dubai are about precision. Raised designs show every gap at the seam, and a wall that is not flat shows through the relief. We check the wall flatness before we quote, and we hang 3D paper only on surfaces we have prepared.
Stairs and stairwells. We fit stairs wallpaper in stairwells and double-height walls, where the issue is reaching the wall safely and keeping the pattern aligned over a rising line. A stairwell job needs scaffolding or a safe platform and is quoted after a visit.
Choosing between them. For most Dubai rooms, we recommend vinyl-coated or non-woven paper. Choose plain paper only for a dry room, and treat self-adhesive as a short-term finish.
Which rooms suit wallpaper and which do not
Wallpaper works best on a stable, dry, flat wall. These notes cover the common rooms.
Living rooms and bedrooms. The best fit. A full room or a feature wall behind a bed or a TV. Choose a surface that handles a wipe with a damp cloth.
Feature walls. A single wall of strong pattern or texture is the most common use of wallpaper in Dubai. It limits the commitment: if you rent or plan to sell, one wall is easier to remove and repaint than a whole room. See wall painting in Dubai for the alternative.
Hallways and corridors. Good, but they take knocks. Use a vinyl-coated paper.
Kitchens. Possible on walls away from the cooker and sink, in a vinyl-coated wallpaper. Not behind a hob, where heat and grease will mark it.
Bathrooms. We advise against ordinary wallpaper in bathrooms. Steam and splashes loosen the adhesive. For a bathroom wall that needs a finish, tiles or a moisture-resistant paint last longer.
Balconies. No. Outdoor sun and humidity destroy interior wallpaper.
Offices, shops and clinics. Commercial wallpaper is common for reception walls and brand walls. Commercial vinyl is made for heavier use. For the full-room finish see commercial painting as an alternative or companion. Our office fit out page shows where reception and brand walls fall in a fit out.
How to measure and order wallpaper
Ordering the right quantity is where many jobs start to go wrong. Here is the method we use, and you can use it too.
- Measure the wall width and height. Measure at several points, because walls are rarely square. Note the ceiling height.
- Subtract only large openings. Doors and large windows can be deducted. Small openings are not worth deducting because they cause waste at the cut.
- Find the roll coverage. Rolls differ in width and length. Check the label, and ask the shop for the usable coverage after the pattern repeat.
- Check the pattern repeat. A large repeat means more waste, because each drop must be cut so the pattern lines up. The bigger the repeat, the more paper you need.
- Add an allowance. Order 10 to 15 per cent more than the calculated amount to cover repeats, trimming and mistakes. We calculate the exact figure once we have seen the walls.
- Order everything at once, from the same batch. Rolls from different batches can differ in shade. Check the batch number on every roll before you accept the delivery.
- Keep a spare roll. Repairs years later are only possible if you can match the paper.
The sample test. Before ordering for a whole room, get a sample and tape it on the wall for a few days. Look at it in daytime and evening light. Colour and texture change a lot in Dubai's strong natural light and in warm artificial light.
If you send us the wallpaper details and the room sizes on WhatsApp, we can check your quantity before you buy.
Preparing the wall: where most wallpaper jobs are won
Wallpaper shows every flaw underneath it. A bump, a crack, a patch of different paint or a damp stain will show through the paper or lift it. Preparation is not an extra. It is the job.
| Wall condition | What it causes | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Glossy or oil paint | Paste cannot grip | Sand the surface and prime |
| Flaking or powdery paint | Paper comes off with the paint | Scrape back to a sound layer and prime |
| Cracks and holes | Show through, or the paper splits over them | Fill, sand smooth and prime |
| Uneven plaster | Ridges and bubbles show under the paper | Skim or sand level, then prime |
| New plaster | Moisture still in the wall; high alkalinity | Allow it to dry fully before priming |
| Damp or mould | Adhesive fails; stain returns | Find and fix the cause first, then treat and prime |
| Existing wallpaper | Old paper may peel with new paste | Strip it, or test that it is firmly bonded |
| Dark or patchy paint | Shows through light paper | Prime or line the wall |
| Sockets and switches | Edges catch and tear | Isolate power, remove covers, refit after |
Priming. A primer or sealer evens out the absorbency of the wall, helps the paste grip and makes the paper easier to remove in future. We choose a primer to suit the wall and the paper. For the paint side of this work, see painting services in Dubai and interior painting.
Damp walls. If the wall has a damp stain, wallpaper is the wrong first step. The damp has to be traced and fixed, or the paper will bubble and go mouldy. We trace the source during the inspection and tell you if the fix is waterproofing, a plumbing repair or a ventilation problem.
Rented and new homes. In a newly handed-over home, the plaster may still hold moisture, and the paint may be a basic coat. Allow the walls to settle, and check the finish before papering. In a rented home, check your tenancy and building rules before fixing wallpaper, and read the part below on rentals.
How a wallpaper job runs, step by step
Wallpaper fixing follows an order. Skipping a step usually shows up as a seam, a bubble or a corner that lifts a week later.
- Site inspection. We measure the walls, check their condition, look at the paper and agree the layout. The visit costs AED 100.
- Written quote. It lists the wall preparation, the paper installation, any supply, and the schedule. VAT at 5% is quoted separately.
- Protect the room. We cover floors and furniture, remove or mask sockets, switches and fittings, and mark the layout.
- Wall preparation. Fill, sand, prime and let it dry. This is where the time goes.
- Plan the layout. We decide where the first drop goes. We start from a plumb line, not from the corner, because corners are rarely straight. Patterned paper is planned so the pattern is centred on a feature or a visible wall.
- Cut the drops. Each strip is cut with an allowance at the top and bottom and matched to the pattern repeat.
- Apply the adhesive. For paste-the-wall papers we paste the wall. For paste-the-paper types we paste the back and let the paper rest ("book") for the time the maker specifies, so the paper relaxes before it goes up.
- Hang the drop. We position it on the plumb line, smooth it from the centre outward to push out air, and set the next drop with a butt joint or the overlap the paper requires.
- Match the seams. Pattern must line up across seams. Seams are rolled lightly and wiped clean of paste.
- Corners, edges and obstacles. Internal corners, external corners, window and door frames, sockets and the ceiling line need careful trimming. We do not stretch paper around a corner, because it will pull back.
- Trim and clean. Excess is trimmed with a sharp blade at the ceiling and the skirting. Paste is cleaned off the paper and the surroundings.
- Refit and handover. Covers and fittings are refitted. We walk the room with you in good light and fix anything you point out. The work carries a 1-year workmanship warranty.
How long does it take? A single feature wall is typically a day or less including preparation. A full room takes longer, and a whole apartment takes several days. We give the schedule in the written quote, because the wall condition and the paper set the time.
Peel-and-stick or paste-the-wall?
Wallpaper fixing falls into two families. Which one suits you depends on how long you want the result to last and how good the wall is.
| Peel-and-stick (self-adhesive) | Paste-the-wall or paste-the-paper | |
|---|---|---|
| Wall needed | Very smooth, clean, sealed | Sound and primed; tolerates small flaws |
| Grip | Weaker over time | Strong when applied to a prepared wall |
| Best for | Short-term, small areas, rentals | Long-term finishes, whole rooms |
| Repositioning | Possible while fresh | Limited once pasted |
| Removal | Often easy, can still lift paint | Needs steam or stripping |
| Humidity | Edges may lift in humid conditions | Better, with the right paper and adhesive |
| Appearance | Seams may show more | Seams can be near-invisible on the right paper |
Our view: for a lasting finish, use a proper wallpaper with paste. Use self-adhesive for a small, short-term change on a smooth wall. Do not expect either to fix a bad wall.
Supply and fit, or fit only?
There are two ways to hire for wallpaper, and the difference changes who carries the risk.
Fit only. You buy the wallpaper from a shop and we install it. We check the quantity and batch before work starts. If the paper arrives short, damaged or from different batches, we tell you before we cut.
Supply and fit. We help you choose the paper and supply it, and the quote includes both. Your single contact handles any problem with the product and the fitting.
For both, we help you with the design side as well: choosing a pattern and scale for the room, planning a feature wall, and advising on where wallpaper design and installation will look best. We are not a wallpaper shop with a fixed catalogue, so we are not tied to pushing one brand.
Whichever you choose, get the split in writing: who orders, who checks the batch, who is responsible for waste, and what happens if a roll turns out to be faulty. A fault in the product itself is for the supplier. The warranty we give covers our workmanship.
Mistakes that ruin a wallpaper job
- Papering over a damp or mouldy wall. The paper will bubble and the mould will return.
- Skipping primer. The paper may stick but will be nearly impossible to remove without damaging the wall.
- Starting in the corner. Corners are rarely plumb, so the first drop leans and every drop after it follows.
- Ordering the exact amount. There is no allowance for a pattern repeat or a mistake.
- Mixing batches. Shade differences show in light.
- Wrong adhesive. Heavy vinyl needs the right paste.
- Not letting the paper rest. Paste-the-paper types that are hung straight away can shrink and leave gaps at the seams.
- Wet seams. Too much paste or water at the seams leaves marks and swells the edge.
- Papering a bathroom or kitchen wall that gets steam and splashes.
- Hanging it before the room is finished. Paint dust, tile work and floor sanding should be finished first.
What a wallpaper quote should show and what moves the price
You will see wallpaper prices in the UAE quoted per roll for the paper and, separately, as a labour rate for installation. We do not publish an installation rate, because a rate that ignores the wall, the paper and the room is not honest. The wallpaper price in Dubai belongs to the shop that sells the roll, and it varies with brand and type. We quote our own work in writing after the inspection.
What moves a wallpaper quote:
- Wall area, and the height. Tall walls and stairwells need access equipment.
- Wall condition. A flat, painted wall needs little preparation. An uneven or damaged wall needs filling, skimming and priming.
- Type of paper. 3D, fabric-touch and murals need more care and time than plain vinyl.
- Pattern repeat and layout. Large patterns and exact matching take longer.
- Number of corners, openings and obstacles.
- Removal of old paper.
- Supply. Whether the paper is included.
- Working conditions. Access, building hours and occupied rooms.
A good quote shows each of these separately:
| Quote line | What it should tell you |
|---|---|
| Wall preparation | Filling, sanding, skimming, priming, damp treatment |
| Removal | Whether old paper is stripped and how |
| Paper supply | Included or not, quantity, allowance |
| Installation | Method, number of walls, rooms or areas |
| Special work | Feature walls, murals, 3D panels, stairs |
| Protection and cleaning | Floors, furniture, daily cleaning |
| Warranty | Length and what it covers |
| VAT | Shown separately at 5% |
If a wallpaper installation company quotes a single price with no scope, you cannot tell whether preparation is included, and preparation is where cheap quotes cut corners. Compare quotes line by line.
Wallpaper price in UAE and wallpaper Dubai price searches usually mean two prices: the roll, which the shop sets, and the fitting, which we quote after the inspection. Ask any wallpaper installation company in Dubai to split the two, so you can compare fitting quotes without comparing different papers.
Removing old wallpaper and repairing the wall
Old wallpaper has to come off before new goes on, unless it is sound and smooth and suits the new paper. Removal is quicker on some papers than others.
Strippable papers. Some papers peel off in one piece, leaving the backing, which can be removed by soaking.
Paper stuck to the wall. The paper is scored and softened, then scraped. This is slow and risks damaging the wall surface.
After removal. The wall is washed to remove paste residue, damaged plaster is filled and sanded, and the wall is primed. If the wall is going back to paint, our painting services in Dubai handle the finishing.
Moving out. In a rental, wallpaper you put up may have to come off before you leave. If it must be removed and the wall repainted for your deposit, see move-out painting in Dubai.
Wallpaper or paint? How to decide
Both change a room, and each wins in different situations. This is the comparison we run through at an inspection.
| Question | Wallpaper tends to win | Paint tends to win |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want pattern, texture or a mural? | Yes: paint cannot match it | Plain colour is enough |
| Is the wall in poor condition? | No: wallpaper shows flaws | Yes: paint plus filling is more forgiving |
| Is the room humid? | Only with vinyl or non-woven | Washable or moisture-resistant paint is safer |
| Is the surface used heavily, by children or pets? | Vinyl wipes clean | A scrubbable paint is easier to touch up |
| Do you rent? | A feature wall is limited and can be removed | Repainting at move-out is simple |
| How long should it last? | Years, with a good wall and paper | Repaint cycle is shorter but easy |
| How easy is it to change? | Needs stripping | A new coat |
Feature walls are where wallpaper earns its place: one wall behind a bed, a sofa or a dining table, with the other walls painted to match a colour in the paper. Full rooms in a bold pattern need more thought, because a strong pattern in a small room can close it in. If you are undecided, send photos and the room sizes on WhatsApp, and we will tell you what we would do and why. Our painting services in Dubai and specialty painting pages cover the paint alternatives, including textures and murals painted by hand.
Planning a feature wall: pattern, scale and light
A feature wall is a small job with a large effect, and a few decisions decide whether it looks planned or accidental.
Pick the wall people look at first. The wall behind the bed, the sofa or the dining table, or the wall you see as you enter. A wall broken up by doors, windows and AC units shows the pattern poorly.
Match scale to the room. Large patterns suit large, tall walls. In a small room a large pattern is cut off by the corners, and a small, even pattern or a texture works better.
Think about the seams. Strong vertical stripes and geometric patterns show a misaligned seam instantly. Soft textures and all-over patterns forgive small errors.
Check the light. A wall facing a large window will show relief and texture sharply, while a wall in shadow flattens it. Hold the sample at the time of day you use the room most.
Plan around fixtures. Wall lights, TV mounts, sockets and shelving should be positioned before the paper goes up, not drilled into it afterwards.
Pick the colour of the other walls from the paper. Take one colour from the pattern and paint the others in it, or in a quieter neutral.
Decide the ceiling line and the skirting. Papers that run to the ceiling need a straight, clean ceiling line. We trim to a sharp edge and tell you if the ceiling is too uneven to meet it cleanly.
Choosing a wallpaper installation company in Dubai
There are many wallpaper companies in Dubai, from shops with their own fitters to independent installers. These checks work for any wallpaper installation company, ours included. When you compare a wallpaper company in Dubai that sells paper with one that only installs it, ask who does the fitting and who answers for a bad seam.
- Do they inspect the walls before quoting? A quote by phone for walls they have not seen is a guess.
- Is wall preparation in the quote? If it is missing, it will appear later as an extra.
- Do they know your paper type? Ask about experience with vinyl, non-woven, 3D, murals and self-adhesive.
- Is the scope in writing? Rooms, walls, preparation, supply, and what is excluded.
- Who does the work? Employees or subcontractors? Ours are employees.
- Do they check batch numbers and quantity before cutting?
- Is there a warranty in writing? And does it separate workmanship from the product?
- Can they show similar work? Photos of seams, corners and finished rooms.
- Do they protect and clean?
- Is VAT shown separately?
Who offers the best 3D wallpaper installation services in Dubai?
No one can claim that without a test. The best 3D wallpaper installation services in Dubai are those that inspect the wall flatness first, plan the layout so seams fall in the right places, use the right adhesive for a heavy relief, and show you finished work. Ask to see a corner and a seam in close-up photos, because that is where 3D paper succeeds or fails.
A wallpaper installation company should list wall preparation in the quote. Quotes for wallpaper installation services differ mainly in what they leave out, and fitting quotes that skip priming are the ones that fail.
Care, rentals and building rules
Cleaning. Dust with a dry cloth. Wipe vinyl-coated paper with a barely damp cloth. Do not scrub non-woven or paper types.
Humidity. Keep the AC running steadily when the home is occupied, and avoid leaving a room closed and hot for weeks, since swings in temperature and moisture strain the seams.
Furniture. Leave a small gap between large furniture and the wall so the wall can breathe and furniture does not rub the paper.
Repairs. Keep a spare roll. A small tear or lifted seam is easy to repair if caught early.
Rentals. Check your tenancy contract before fixing wallpaper to a rented home. Many landlords require walls returned in their original condition, which can mean removal and repainting. Get permission in writing.
Building rules. Some buildings and communities limit working hours or require notice for fit-out work. We deal with building and community paperwork, including NOCs where a building requires them, before work starts.

Frequently asked questions about wallpaper installation in Dubai
How much does wallpaper installation cost in Dubai?
The price is set by the wall area and height, the condition of the wall, the type of paper and the pattern. We quote in writing after a site inspection (AED 100), with 5% VAT shown separately. The wallpaper price in the UAE for the roll itself is set by the shop, and shop stock across the UAE changes often.
Can you fit wallpaper that I bought elsewhere?
Yes. We check the quantity and batch before we start, and we tell you if anything is wrong before we cut.
Do you supply wallpaper as well?
Yes. We advise on the choice and supply the wallpaper, or fit paper you bought. The quote states which.
How long does wallpaper installation take?
It depends on the wall and the paper. A feature wall is usually a day or less with preparation, a full room takes longer and a whole apartment several days. The written quote states the schedule.
Do I need to prepare the wall first?
The wall must be sound, smooth, dry and primed. We do this as part of the job and list it in the quote, so you do not need to prepare it yourself.
Is peel-and-stick wallpaper good in Dubai?
It suits small, short-term jobs on smooth, sealed walls. For a lasting finish, we recommend a proper wallpaper with paste, because humidity can loosen the edges of self-adhesive.
Can wallpaper go in a bathroom or kitchen?
Not in a bathroom. In a kitchen, only vinyl-coated paper, and away from the hob and sink.
Will you remove my old wallpaper?
Yes. We strip it, repair the wall and prime it, then fit the new paper or repaint.
Do you do kids' rooms, murals, 3D and stairwell wallpaper?
Yes. Each has its own method, and we quote after seeing the wall.
Is there a warranty on wallpaper installation?
Yes, 1 year on workmanship. A fault in the wallpaper itself is a matter for the supplier.
Do you offer wallpaper installation services in Dubai for stairs and stairwells?
Yes. Stairs wallpaper installation services in Dubai need safe access and careful pattern matching on a rising line, so we quote after a visit.
Who offers wallpaper design and installation in Dubai?
We do. We advise on pattern and scale, help you choose or fit what you bought, and install it with prepared walls.
